In view of a world where environmental concerns have become increasingly prominent, the call for sustainable practices has certainly never been louder. Indeed from reducing carbon footprints to minimizing waste, individuals and industries alike are seeking innovative solutions to mitigate their impact on the planet. At the core of good practices in design is the choice of sustainable materials.
Therefore, we explore the latest trends and material choices in this blog that got our attention at this year’s surface design show.
Welcome to the forefront of sustainable innovation, where creativity meets environmentally conscious design. Join us as we celebrate novel sustainable materials and the positive impact they can have on our planet. Together, let’s embrace design solutions where good design is also sustainable and a guiding principle in every aspect of our practice.

2. Plastics Instead of Marble
We loved the novelty of this new sheet material making 100% recycled

3. Paper Instead of Stone

4. Sustaining Meadows
A series of delightful new materials fabricated from pressed alpine meadows, flowers and moss.
With a backing layer of natural linen it is suitable as wallpaper, acoustic paneling and can be applied to sheet materials. Furthermore we love that as a side effect the material helps to sustain alpine meadows and has in fact a positive climate balance of 1kg hay binds 0. 45 kg CO2.

5. Beautiful Wood-chips
Terrazzo made with timber off-cuts and saw dust. It can also be used as sheet material in furniture and worktops.
A celebration of the beauty of timber which is undoubtedly even more enjoyable as it would otherwise have gone to waste. Instead this product has provided a second life from sustainable resources.
